Easter Sunday – 03.31.2013

03-31-13 Pastor Rob Gerber – Easter Sunday

March 29th, 2013

Good Friday Greetings,

As I have attended to various events and services on Good Friday’s over the years, I have always felt that the “Good” in it was a misnomer. The day that Jesus was crucified was in one sense the saddest most troubling event in all of history. Man in his rebellion put to death the most kind, compassionate, caring and loving individual that ever walked the earth. When I went to the movie “The Passion” I sobbed uncontrollably through half the movie. Yet, I know the reason it is described as “good”. It was absolutely essential that God Himself would lay down His life and shed His blood to pay the penalty for our sin. There was no other way for God to be both just and loving.

A few thoughts to meditate on:

“No man understands the Scriptures, unless he be acquainted with the cross.” Martin Luther

“Take away the cross of Christ, and the Bible is a dark book.” J.C. Ryle

“The Cross is the ultimate evidence that there is no length the love of God will refuse to go in effecting reconciliation.” R. Kent Hughes

“We must not forget that it wasn’t the Jews that put him on the cross, and it wasn’t the Romans. It was my sins, it was your sins, the sins of this world.” Franklin Graham

“Look at that Roman soldier as he pushed his spear into the very heart of the God-man. What a hellish deed! But what was the next thing that took place? Blood covered the spear! Oh! thank God, the blood covers sin. There was the blood covering that spear-the very point of it. The very crowning act of sin brought out the crowning act of love; the crowning act of wickedness was the crowning act of grace.” D. L. Moody

“God grades on the Cross not on the curve.” Adrian Rogers

“Let us honor the blood of Jesus Christ every moment of our lives, and we will be sweet in our souls.” William J. Seymour

“Our old history ends with the cross; our new history begins with the resurrection.” Watchman Nee

I hope that you all can join us this Sunday, March 31st, at 9am and 10:45am as we celebrate Easter and the great truth of the resurrection. Invite someone to join you!
