Judges Gideon – Part 1 – 06.24.2012

06-24-12 Deacon Jason Kanz – Character in the Midst of Chaos

Greetings,

On Sunday I will be leaving for Alabama. Alabama is not a vacation destination this time of year as I expect the temperature and humidity to be close to the same 90 degree mark! I am traveling as part of a Civil Rights History class at UWEC. Race has always seemed to obstruct the love of God being shared with our neighbor. People are loved by God across all races in this world. We need to express this love to our neighbor as Jesus demonstrated while he walked on Earth. Martin Luther King Jr. liked to quote this verse from Amos 5:24,

“But let judgement run down like waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream”.

Seeing injustice in the world can give us a feeling of helplessness in being able to do anything about it, but it is good to remember to love our neighbor as ourselves and to allow the judgement of the Lord to one day run over injustice like a mighty stream.

This Sunday, Jason Kanz will be speaking on Gideon as we continue our series, Character in the Midst of Chaos. The character of Gideon emerges out of extreme chaos as the children of Israel are afraid to even work in their fields in sight of the oppressor. Gideon is living in fear and God calls him to boldness. He answers the call of the Lord in a most remarkable way. The story begins in Judges chapter six if you would like to read it before Sunday.
